This came as a complete surprise. We discovered, while reading about Darling Harbour, that one of the Buran Soviet space shuttles was there as a semi-permanent exhibit. We had to see that! Well, I had to anyay, geek that I am, and Lisa was kind enough to come along.

Buran is slightly larger than the US space shuttle, the one that was exhibited actually never went into space but was used for testing - and it was equipped with a large jet fuel tank and 4 jet engines that let it take off on its own, from a runway.

The exhibit was very well designed in the best Soviet style. It was absolutely empty when we visited, we were able to get an excellent look everywhere.

It appears that this exhibit was dismantled some time in 2002... Too bad.
